We are pleased to introduce Angela Nguyen, an illustrator and author whose joyful, instantly recognisable kawaii style has delighted readers around the world. With almost 200,000 copies sold across her books with Search Press, Angela has become a defining voice in contemporary cute illustration and a much‑loved creator on our drawing list.
Angela’s illustrations are playful, expressive and full of personality, drawing inspiration from pop culture, video games, everyday life and her love of dogs. Her work invites readers to reconnect with the simple pleasure of drawing, encouraging creativity through accessible techniques and charming subject matter. Each book reflects her belief that drawing should feel fun, achievable and confidence‑boosting.
Her publishing journey with Search Press began in 2017 with Kawaii: How to Draw Really Cute Stuff, the first title in what would become an exceptionally popular and enduring series. This was followed by How to Draw Really Cute Animals in 2018 and How to Draw Really Cute Food in 2019, expanding the range of subjects while maintaining a consistently approachable style. Over time, the series has continued to grow, exploring imaginative worlds and themes through titles such as Really Cute Fantasy Creatures, From Around the World, Woodland Friends, and most recently Really Cute Spooky Stuff (2025).
The success of the series lies in Angela’s ability to break drawings down into clear, repeatable steps while allowing plenty of room for personality and variation. Her books appeal to a wide audience, from complete beginners and younger artists to experienced illustrators looking for light‑hearted inspiration and practice.
Looking ahead, Angela’s creative universe continues to expand with Kawaii: How to Draw Really Cute Stuff Around the Farm, publishing in August 2026, followed by Kawaii: How to Draw Really Cute Dinosaurs set to publish in May 2027, ensuring there is always something new for readers to explore.
Based in Seattle, USA, Angela runs a successful online art business under the name Pikarar, creating cute apparel, homeware, stationery and illustration products enjoyed by fans worldwide. She also travels internationally, sharing her work at art conventions, and regularly connects with her audience through live art tutorials and gaming streams on Twitch.
Across every project, Angela brings enthusiasm, generosity and a genuine desire to inspire others. Her aim is not only to continue developing her own creative practice, but also to encourage fellow artists to pursue their passions with confidence.
